Psychotherapy with a Mask

Today, I was thoroughly screened before I saw my caseload of nursing home residents.

I was asked if I had any symptoms suggestive of the coronavirus, as well as if I had recently traveled. They also took my temperature. After that, I donned a mask.

It’s very challenging to conduct psychotherapy sessions while wearing a mask! Many of my residents are very hard of hearing. Several times, they asked me to repeat what I had just said.

All of my residents are currently quarantined to their rooms. They’re not allowed to have any visitors. This is extremely challenging for individuals who are already so very socially isolated.

It was extremely rewarding to meet with my residents today. They were more appreciative than usual of my visits this afternoon.
