This morning, I experienced increased throat-clearing. Walking into campus today, I noticed a painfully familiar sensation: shortness of breath upon exertion.
It’s been nearly seven months since my last throat dilatation surgery. I’ve been doing much better, all things considered. I really want to be able to finish this semester without needing to have another throat surgery.
After all, I’ll need to travel to the Cleveland Clinic for my next dilatation surgery. This will also Dr. Robert Lorenz a firsthand look at my airway, before he performs a more aggressive procedure, a tracheal re-section.
I’m trying to stay as relaxed as possible with this recent turn of events. I’m very much aware that my emotional reaction to increased airway narrowing is a key component in managing this very rare disorder.
