Sensitivity in Teaching

This afternoon, I was reminded of just how critically important it is to be sensitive to my students’ individual learning needs.

I drove to the campus where I teach on Saturday mornings, and dropped off a set of handouts for one of my students to complete. I had a chance to chat with her academic advisor.

It turns out that this is the third college that this student has attended to date. In fact, she struggled to graduate from high school.

She’s been missing multiple classes this semester, and has often shown up late for those classes which she did attend.

I now have a much better idea of just how difficult college coursework must be for her. I’ll be sure to reach out to her, and offer her additional assistance.
