Last evening, I attended a four-hour active shooter training at one of the colleges for which I teach. What a heartbreaking commentary on our society that this type of training is absolutely necessary.
The class actually went by very quickly. There was a lot of information to absorb. We learned a lot about the various options that we face when confronted with an active shooter: run, hide, fight, or do nothing.
We also practiced some techniques for the management of gunshot wounds, including learning how to properly apply a tourniquet and a H bandage.
Honestly, I hope that I never need to utilize the information that was presented last evening.
