I just finished seeing several of the residents who are on my caseload, at a nearby nursing home. Unfortunately, one of them has developed an upper respiratory infection, since our session last week.
Just yesterday, my neurologist suggested that I start taking Aubagio, to treat my relapsing-remitting MS. This medication is known to suppress your immune system.
I always practice good hygiene practices whenever I see residents, whether or not they happen to be sick on any given day. Having spent several previous years on immunosuppressants, as well as chemotherapy, I’m not terribly excited about starting to take yet another medication which will undoubtedly lower my resistance to developing an infection.
Regardless, I want my course of MS to remain stable. I know that achieving this goal is best enhanced by utilizing a disease-modifying medication.
