It’s incredibly difficult to juggle the management of multiple chronic illnesses. Each condition has its unique set of symptoms, disease course and prognosis, treatment protocol, and prescription medication regimen.
Each chronic illness requires ongoing visits to specialists, as well as the coordination of care with a primary care physician. More times than I care to enumerate, I’ve found myself trying to triage the relative importance of each of my chronic diagnoses. Some symptoms require more immediate attention; other symptoms may not be as critical to address.
One of the most debilitating symptoms that I have ever experienced is shortness of breath. When you struggle to breathe, absolutely everything feels overwhelmingly difficult to accomplish. The sheer unpredictability of my MS symptoms continues to amaze me, decades after living with this chronic neurological disorder.
