At age 50, I initially applied for social security disability benefits. When I was just age 52, I was awarded full disability benefits. As a result, my health insurance provider subsequently became Medicare. Of course, this is a somewhat younger age than when individuals typically have conversations about starting to receive their Medicare benefits.
During more than one social occasion, I have felt extremely awkward when somewhat older individuals have begun to discuss their retirement situations, including their Medicare benefits. I wish that I had been healthy enough to work full-time in a position, and to retire.
Nevertheless, I’m very thankful that I have been able to work part-time during the past seven months. I very much enjoy having had the opportunity to teach a psychology course, both during the fall and spring semesters. I am thankful that I am also able to work part-time as a clinical psychologist for a local nursing home.
