Painting as Respite

I just returned from my monthly oil painting class. It was wonderful to have a brief respite from my typical responsibilities. Unfortunately, I still don’t feel well. My throat is sore, and I continue to feel feverish.

Nevertheless, spending an afternoon with paints and brushes is a luxurious respite from not feeling well. At times, painting feels like pure magic to me. I really enjoy learning new techniques. I can be very critical of my painting.

I’m trying to simply enjoy the challenge of learning something new, however. I’m very thankful to have a gifted painting teacher. She gently suggests ways to improve my painting techniques, as opposed to being critical with her feedback.
