Given the fluctuating severity of my chronic illnesses, I’m very concerned about being able to be a reliable employee. I’m an extremely hard worker, and highly motivated. Due to factors beyond my control, I unpredictably develop increased symptom severity. Of course, employers need to have reliable employees for their jobs. This situation creates enormous stress for me. In turn, I’m well aware that heightened stress levels exacerbate my symptoms. This is a truly vicious cycle. It’s made even more challenging by the fact that I generally look relatively healthy. Consequently, others can easily draw the wrong conclusions about my true motivation to work.
