Pushing Through or Pulling Back

When you’re dealing with chronic illness, you need to learn to master a very delicate dance. You need to discern when to keep pushing through your current symptoms, and when to simply pull back and rest.

This is not easy to accomplish in our fast-paced, driven, action-oriented society. It’s especially difficult to do when your outward appearance continually masks the true severity of your ongoing health challenges.

Actual achievement is overtly rewarded, whereas practicing adequate self-care is but a quiet, private victory. Pushing beyond your illness-imposed limitations almost always has dire consequences for your health status. Some are immediately manifested, whereas others are somewhat delayed.
