Pressure to Keep Up

Unpredictable chronic illnesses don’t lend themselves to being a terribly consistent employee in any given workplace. My increased symptoms have already interfered with completing the responsibilities associated with my clinical position at a local nursing home.

This, of course, makes me feel extremely stressed. Increased stress inevitably exacerbates my symptoms. Heightened symptoms create even more stress. What a truly vicious cycle that this is! It’s even more difficult because I appear healthy.

Without others specifically knowing about my health challenges, they can very easily draw the wrong conclusions about my inconsistent performance. Not surprisingly, they can believe that I am simply not very motivated to adequately perform a job. They can conclude that I am not very interested in performing job functions. Neither one of these statements, however, is actually true.
