Since I have relapsing-remitting MS, I occasionally suffer from periods of slurred speech. This is much more likely to happen when I feel overtired.
Unfortunately, I’ve had a few episodes of slurred speech while lecturing to my Abnormal Psychology class. Without exception, these brief incidences always leave me feeling extraordinarily self-conscious.
Nevertheless, I’ve decided to never offer an explanation to my students for my periodic speech difficulties. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but I’ve occasionally noticed a few rather startled expressions on my student’s faces, when I have had periods of slurred speech. I simply try to move on when this occurs.
