Stress of Hidden Illness

It’s really stressful to be dealing with the myriad demands of chronic illness, but not to have others even be aware that you’re actually doing so. Of course, others might not necessarily be supportive of your health challenges, even if they were fully informed about them.

However, intentionally keeping such important information hidden comes at a very high price. When you basically appear healthy, others typically assume that you are, unless you disclose otherwise.

Consequently, they assume that you are able to keep up with the typical demands that a generally healthy person is capable of juggling.

Nevertheless, what you see isn’t always what you get, I have learned, in the very hardest of ways. I frequently feel like an imposter, just waiting until I am fully outed by my medical problems rearing their ugly heads. Alas, the charade will finally be over.
