For the overwhelming majority of my life, my body was pear-shaped. I now find myself to be very much an apple!
Of course, it’s much physically healthier to carry excess weight around your hips and thighs, as opposed to around your abdomen. I blame several factors for this change in my body shape.
Being on high doses of prednisone, for an extended period of time, seemed to permanently alter the distribution of my excess body weight. This has remained true, even after having discontinued prednisone for some time now.
Hormonal changes, due to perimenopause, have also been a factor in altering my body’s shape. For the last several years, I’ve had a very high stress level, too. This does cause the hypersecretion of cortisol; excess cortisol promotes abdominal weight gain, too. Well, this type of apple a day doesn’t keep the doctor away.
