Some people have mistakenly assumed that I must have an extremely weakened immune system, given that I have been diagnosed with multiple chronic illnesses.
Actually, the very opposite is true: my immune system is in over-drive. It is up-regulated. It is an overachiever, so to speak. I don’t know why I developed multiple chronic illnesses.
Both of my parents have enjoyed good health throughout their long lives. My deceased father eventually developed diabetes, but not until a very advanced age. My mother, who is 88, has developed age-related health issues, such as osteoarthritis.
Not only is my immune system overly active, it is actively targeted against my own body. Talk about being your own worst enemy, right?
